tips for avoiding winter beauty blues

Now that summer has officially wrapped the calmer pace of that season is about to give way to the more chaotic winter and holiday season, right as our golden glow fades – a potential recipe for disaster when it comes to beauty. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to avoid winter's beauty blues.

Bright eyed and busy-tailed whether you feel like it or not.
  • Elavo Skincare is a brand new skincare line created by Dr. Ahmet Altiner, a New York City based, board certified dermatologist. Dr. Altiner's goal was to create an easy, effective product line that was driven by the same patient-centric philosophy at the core of his practice. Elavo Radiant Eyes ( $39.99) is a powerful antioxidant complex that clinically reduces the appearance of dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles. Workhorse ingredient Titanium Dioxide provides effective SPF protection from UVA and UVB rays and thanks to its light-diffusing properties, works as a pigment corrector to instantly reduce the shadows that play off dark under eye circles.
  • Gray Away ( $9.99) is a temporary root touch up product that extends the life of professional hair color and provides a thicker appearance to hair. With more men and women first spotting gray hairs as early as in their 20s and gray roots reemerging as early as two weeks after the last color, so many people wind up with terrible roots or spending far too much time and money in the salon chair.
Just because summer is over doesn't mean you should throw in the towel on these beauty rituals:
  • According to NYC based, board certified podiatrist Dr. Dennis Shavelson, fall and winter pedicuresshould be more than just a once-in-a-blue-moon indulgence. During the cold months feet are tucked inside shoes with tight toe boxes causing repetitive micro-trauma (RMT) and scuffing of the nails, which can lead to fungal toenails.
  • It's one of the best parts of winter and fall fashion – freedom from regular shaving! Dr. Altiner suggests taking advantage of the long sleeves and pants by letting your hair grow a little longer than normal and taking the opportunity to have it lasered off. He explains that fall and winter is the perfect time to start a laser hair removal plan because it provides ample time to get in the treatments necessary to fully remove the hair and tanned skin cannot be treated.
  • According to New York City orthodontist Dr. Jacqueline Fulop Goodling, now's a great time to whiten your teeth. She explains that during the cooler months, requests for whitening go down because patients are fearful that the dental sensitivity of whitening and the colder air will be a big (and literal) pain. But, says Dr. Jacquie, not only does a whitened, brighter smile enhance one's complexion, there are professional products available that safely eliminate dental sensitivity completely. ACP or amorphous calcium phosphate should be available at any dental office.
